Happiness Depends on More than Years

Happiness Depends on More than Years
Happiness depends on more than years
.All one's moments gather to a wave
Passing in a rolling swell of tears,
Passions too immense to name or save.
Yet New Year's is a crest on which to sing,
Now poised between the future and the past.
Each awaits what course the fates may bring,
Winds that never touch the things that last.
Years turn and turn with an hypnotic grace
Even as the depths of life lie still.
Although above one cannot silence face,
Remember that below the divers will

Happy New Year

Happy New Year
May bring no tear to any eye
When this New Year in time shall end
Let it be said I've played the friend,
Have lived and loved and labored here
, And made of it a happy year

The OAK

The OAK

Live thy life,
Young and old,
Like yon oak,
Bright in spring,
Living gold,
Summer – rich
Then, and then
Autumn – changed,
Soberer – hued
cold again.
All his leaves
Fall’n at length,
Look, he stands,
Trunk and bough,
Naked strength

Giant Rafflesia Flower

The giant rafflesia, a type of lily, is the largest
flower in the world, weighing up to 7 kg (15 lb) and measuring up to 91 cm (about 36 in) wide. Found in Malaysia and Indonesia, the flowers emit the stench of rotting meat to attract certain flies.

Ronde de Nice zucchinis, pictured here, are round summer squashes cultivated in France and

Italy. Because their skins bruise easily, these flavorful vegetables are rarely found in supermarkets

Gaboon Viper

The heavy-bodied Gaboon viper, Bitis gabonica, is well camouflaged by its geometrically patterned skin. An opportunistic feeder, it takes a variety of small mammals, birds, and reptiles as food. It is known for its extraordinarily long fangs-up to about 5 centimeters (about 2 inches)-which deliver venom deep into the victim's tissue. It is considered extremely dangerous to humans. The species is native to a variety of habitats, from arid steppe to moist forest throughout much of central and southern Africa. Adult females may reach 2 meters (7 feet) in length. Shown here is the distinct West African subspecies, which has two prominent nasal horns

Starfish

Starfish
A starfish feeds on coral in the Red Sea. Most starfish have five arms, although specimens with four, six, or more arms are not uncommon. They are known for their ability to regenerate severed body parts

Starfish

Starfish
Although many starfish have 5 arms, or rays, some species may have as many as 44 arms. All starfish can grow back arms lost through predation and physical injury. Starfish have a flattened body with the mouth located on the oral, or lower body surface. Many starfish can evert their stomach through their mouth to feed on food items too large to ingest.

Downhill Racing

Downhill Racing

In downhill racing, skiers descend steep slopes, often reaching speeds well in excess of 100 km/h (62 mph). Race officials prepare the courses prior to races, grooming the snow and placing course markers, or gates, through which racers must pass to complete the race. For safety, competitors are required to wear helmets; to cut down on wind resistance, they wear tight-fitting suits and maintain a tucked position as often as possible, with poles shaped to curve around their body

Geodesic Dome

Geodesic Dome
This geodesic dome was built for the United States pavilion at Expo ’67, the world’s fair in Montréal, Canada. Geodesic domes have no internal supports, making them ideal structures for holding large groups of people. They are made up of standardized, interlocking shapes that can be assembled and taken apart quickly

A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Fairies emerge from doorways in space, and Bottom’s bed hangs suspended before the moon in this 1998 production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. The set, lighting, staging, and costumes all combine to intensify the play’s enchanted, unreal atmosphere
